The Bi-Annual Creative Conference showcases creative minds from a wide diversity of artistic fields. Half of our speakers are local while the other half are artists flown to Perth from other parts of Australia and international locations. Each speaker discusses their experiences and progress within their respective creative careers, touching on lessons learn't and tips for those moving into the same field, motivating and inspiring the creative sector of Perth!
CREATIVE COLLECTIVE - AKUTE MAGAZINE (Perth, WA)
A new magazine in Perth, self-funded & freely distributed, capturing the creative side of cool.
Sam & Michael, the photographers & editors behind the publication, took to the stage to open the conference with a unique video they had created introducing their life.
They continued further to discuss their involvement in the Perth scene, what it takes to run a magazine and what motivates them to keep their dream alive.
CREATIVE COLLECTIVE - ARTIFACTORY (Perth, WA)
Mixing art with science! Artifactory is a place where like-minded people with an interest in technology, design & construction can come together to create their projects, share idea's and socialise.
Skot & Jenna, the masterminds who orchestrate the craziness within Artifactory, opened up their speech with an entertaining mishap of slides accidentally revealing their evil plans to take over the world! With the right presentation selected, they continued to discuss what happens inside their weird and wonderful world they have created. They emphasised on the barriers they had to overcome in Perth to create such a place, revealing their methods of overcoming the red tape that attempts to halt creativity.
VISUAL ARTIST - ANYA BROCK (Perth, WA)
The Art of Perth born Anya Brock is unmistakable & striking; from her fine use of bold, expressive black lines, to the kaleidoscope colour palette through which she see's the world.
Anya took us into her past of fashion and design, reflecting on how she found her style and the methods she used to promote her work across Australia & beyond.
ARTIST - SAM PERRY (Perth, WA)
Sam Perry emerged 3 years ago from his bedroom and into the Western Australian Music Industry. Sam had been toning his craft for months behind closed doors before unleashing his talent to Perth. Since then, Sam has toured Australia & the world!
Sam took the stage and wow'd the audience armed with only a loop station, effects pedal and a microphone, creating layer upon layer of haunting vocal harmonies, heavy bass-lines and break-beat, beat boxed rhythms - live on the spot. .
VISUAL ARTIST - JOEL REA (Gold Coast, QLD)
Joel, raised on the Gold Coast of Australia, perfected his style using physical elements as a metaphor for human emotion & experience, portraying nature as a pulsating energy that is both majestic & threatening.
Joel shared his story through is artistic career, taking us on a journey through his motivation, concepts, and time taken to express the realistic detail which landed him in the Art Business News Magazine to be one of the most top 30 artists under 30 years of age.
URBAN ARTISTS - THE YOK & SHERYO (Brooklyn, NY)
This couple of urban artists have emerged from the depths of the underground art world to be the globe trotting muralists they are today; leaving their mark in places such as Vietnam, Spain, Mexico, America & Australia.
The Yok & Sheryo gave us an inside look into their lives as developing artists, their roots of style and motivation was expressed through a presentation of photos & videos, taking us with them around the world to re-live the magic that has led them to their international recognition.
VISUAL ARTIST - MARK RAATS (Perth, WA)
South African born and Perth dweller, Mark is responsible for many of the arts used in Lucas Films & more! With over 30 years in the industry, Mark gave us his personal views on what is important when pursuing an artistic career & what makes an artist successful.
Mark inspired us with his inside stories behind the art of many famous film titles, taking us on his development of techniques and how setting your goal and working towards it eventually pays off.
VIDEOGRAPHER - BRETT NOVAK (Los Angeles, CA)
LA film maker, skater & hopeful video creator has reached more than half a billion views online for his stunning & abstract cinematography techniques.
Brett exposed his escape story from the nine-to-five life he was stuck in ; painstakingly editing video clips for the rich & famous - to the sun flooded Californian streets ; that allowed him to release his creativity and find his own film style in an over-saturated market. Brett gave us his views on how he approaches projects and expressed the importance of under planning to ensure you don't miss the natural beauty you may have miss on set when working with a set plan.
